Texas Creek OHV Area - Cotopaxi, CO

Texas Creek OHV Area - Cotopaxi, CO

Distance From Denver: 155 Miles

Cost: Free

Liz Rating: 4/5 (rated this way because of the scenic area, relatively few people, and distance from other attractions). I would have given it a 5/5 if there had been more trails and access to higher alpine areas from the campsites.

Things to Do:

  1. Camp

  2. Dirt Bike, Jeep, or ATV around the Texas Creek trails and surrounding area - use CoTrex app for offline map tracking!

  3. Visit nearby Arkansas River and go rafting - you can raft through the gorge if you’re feeling adventurous!

  4. Visit Royal Gorge

Getting to Texas Creek was easy - check out the embedded map below. There was a fair bit of construction on I-25, but other than that, it was easy going. You will turn into the Texas Creek OHV Area and cross a small bridge. After going across the bridge, you will cross railroad tracks. Once you’re in the official OHV area, you can camp wherever you find space. We recommend going past the parking lot on your left, continuing on that dirt road, and going past the camping areas on the right. You will then go over a small hill that’s a little bumpy. There is much better camping ahead!

Check out this video for some dispersed campsites along the path to trail head for 6040. If you continue up in the map above where the arrows split, you will pass these.
