Dirtbiking and Camping - Breckenridge

Tiger Road has some of the best dirtbiking in the central mountains. As a bonus, the forest off the road is national forest land, and you know what that means! FREE CAMPING! I would advise you to get here early if you have a decent size rig as camping gets crowded during summer weekend evenings. We have made it up the dirt road in a 30’ trailer and have seen many larger 5th wheels camped here. Be cautious though because there are a LOT of potholes and washed out spots in the dirt road. The best thing about this spot is the riding directly from your campsite. I have seen many mountain goats every time we ride the trail. Make sure your OHV stickers are up to date. They frequently patrol trails at the top of the mountain. Fantastic views, old mining buildings, and fields of wildflowers await you on this trail.

To get here for camping from Denver: Follow I-70 W to CO-9 S in Summit County. Take exit 203 from I-70 W. Follow CO-9 S and Tiger Rd to North Fork Swan Road. Alternatively, enter these GPS waypoints -> 39°30'54.2"N 105°56'31.6"W. North Fork Swan Road will be on your LEFT as you drive up Tiger Road. To the right of your turn, you will see a large gravel pit. If you pass a dog kennel, you have gone too far.

Follow Tiger Road until hitting North Fork Swan Road. Turn left onto the dirt road.

Continue to the starred location on my map for a turnaround spot and level ground for fifth wheels. You will need to go to this field to turn around. We regularly see large 5th wheels here and have pulled our 30+ foot camper up.

RIDING!!!

If you camp at any of the places I’ve starred here, you’re in luck. You can ride straight from your camper or tent. If you are camping in a tent, I would recommend that you continue on past the campers and go up the forest roads for a mile or two. There are many great spots for camping here where there won’t be people right next to you.

North Fork Swan Road turns into a FR. You will ride past the 5th wheel campers on your right and go through a creek. Exploring the forest roads will take you above treeline, where you will be greeted with beautiful scenery. Be advised if you’re riding dirtbikes that there are a LOT of jeeprs and UTVers on this trail and there are quite a few blind corners while you head to the top of the mountain.
