Camping Near the Five Miles of Hell Trailhead: What You Need to Know

Where to camp?

  • We stayed off i70 (exit Temple Mountain Road) and just past the 5 MOH trailhead. There is limitless camping along Temple Mtn Rd.

Five Miles of Hell Trail

  • Location: San Rafael Swell, near Green River, Utah.

  • Length: About 9 miles, despite the name.

  • Difficulty: Extremely challenging single-track for experienced riders only.

  • Terrain: Rock obstacles, tight turns, ledges, and technical sections requiring bike dragging in places.

  • Preparation: Bring extra water, tools, and a riding group—getting stuck can become a survival situation.

The trail is part of a color-coded system with different difficulty levels:

  • Red Trail (Five Miles of Hell) – The hardest, most technical trail.

  • Orange Trail – A slightly less extreme but still difficult alternative.
